In February 2013, I passed both the Technician and General Class Amateur Radio exams on the same morning. I recently purchased a dual band, 2m/440 HT, so I am now monitoring local Salt Lake City repeaters.
Growing up, I built a number of low power radios, and I figured it was time to play with more power. In the early '90s I started to study for the Technician class license, but I got busy with other things and didn't get back to my electronics and radio hobby until recently.
I live in South Jordan, Utah with my wife, along with two Shetland Sheepdogs and two ferrets. I went to BYU for three years, studying Electrical and Computer Engineering. I bailed out and got the job that I really wanted -- making video games. Twenty years later I still make video games professionally. I currently work for Electronic Arts as a software engineer. Prior to that I worked for Microsoft, Headgate Software, Access Software, Morpheus Interactive, and for a while I even had my own company, Sir Knight Software. I have worked on many games, like The Sims 3 for Xbox 360 and Sony PS3, and a number of The Sims 3 Expansion Packs for the PC, The Sims Medieval, Nerf N-Strike and Nerf N-Strike Elite for the Wii, The Godfather Blackhand Edition for the Wii, The Godfather The Game for the PC, several years of Tiger Woods PGA Tour, several years of Microsoft Links Golf, Tex Murphy Overseer, and more. It's fun. I really enjoy it. Along the way, I went back to school and earned my Bachelors of Science Degree in Information Technology with an emphasis in Web Technology from the University of Phoenix.
I am actively involved with our local Neighborhood Watch and CERT. I am the Cub Scout Committee Chairman in our local Cub Scout Pack for the Boy Scouts of America. I am an Eagle Scout, amateur photographer, cross-country skier, hiker, and camper. I enjoy going four-wheeling, practicing at the rifle range and the archery range, digitally restoring my family's old photos and learning about the stories of my ancestors.
I have far more hobbies than I have time for these days, but I love every minute of being busy.
